about

"Field Work / フィールドワーク" is inspired by the Ryuichi Sakamoto/Thomas Dolby track of the same name. This album features... well... a great deal of songs that never had a place until now I suppose. Many of these tracks were written for games that were never released, commissions that never panned out, album concepts that were scratched, various competitions, single performances, and just for fun.

In preparation for this album, my Field Work had me searching through every single scrap, idea, concept, and forgotten melody to discover just the right mix of old and new. In my frenzy, tons of emotion stirred up; there were very personal tracks that were simply abandoned or written as almost a private stream of consciousness - I hadn't heard them in years.

That said, I refreshed and applied a new point of view to all the tracks and then picked the most meaningful of the bunch. I can't even begin to describe the utter chaos of this whole process - files everywhere, terrible version control, tracks hidden in emails, etc - and even after all this combing and sifting, many great tracks hit the floor because they simply couldn't be finished or, in some cases, there was no clear copy of the final version.

Luckily, this effort undoubtedly paid off as the result is this heartfelt mix of "found" material - born from depths of the mazes of my tracker folders and excavated for display in this museum of old thoughts, terrifying emotions, long lost dreams, and suppressed creativity.

I hope you enjoy my Field Work / フィールドワーク.

This was a VERY long journey - I combed through almost 4 years worth of music! So of course it meant countless late nights of me cursing and swearing at my computer. I'm thankful to have a partner who is probably the most understanding woman in the entire world - I love you, Jinah - thanks for your support - we are a TEAM, no matter what.

A very special thanks to many of the usual suspects here in no particular order, all of which I'm proud to call friends: Kev Ragone, Remy, Paul Weinstein, Brandon Hood, Sean Callahan, Dino Lionetti, Ricardo Almonte, Joey Mariano, Chris Connelly, b knox, Mr. Trackman (actually none of the N163 tracks would have worked without his help hahaha), Rana, Patrick Todd - really any of you guys who have kept me sharp and working on this stuff!

Obligatory thanks to my colleagues at Brave Wave- Keiji Yamagishi, Manami Matsumae, Masashi Kageyama, Mohammed Taher, Alex Aniel (who reminded me how bad I am at katakana) - I cannot believe that I can even list any of you as colleagues - you are wonderful. :)

And last but not least - thanks to all the programmers I've worked with for some great upcoming games! Javed Miah (Brock Crocodile) is a great person and a true friend - we'll keep working! And Adam Mowery (Curse of the Crescent Isle DX)- thanks again for all the support and friendship!
